Management Reflective Journal - June 2013

From this introduction to Management module, I expected to learn how to manage a group of people, how to lead them in a project. In this 12 weeks or 1 semester of learning Introduction of Management module, I have learned about what management and manager is about, the history of the evolution of management, types of the business environment, how to planning the goals in the organization, how to become a good leadership, how to motivate employees, how to fulfill their needs, the steps of decision making and etc.

About this Introduction to Management module, I felt that I need to more understand about the theories especially when doing the individual assignment, online quiz and group assignment. Because these assignments and quiz are related to the real life which means that I need to apply the theories that I had learned in the tutorial class and lecture hall.

When I am doing the individual in which is the case study with the topic case that stated in the textbook. From 5 of them, I chose the Chapter 2: Case Application 1 ‘Out of Control‘. In this study case, it talked about the Toyota Coorperation. By doing this project I can understand more about the organization culture and types of the culture in each organization.

But when I am doing the online quiz that only have 15 minutes for around 20 questions is not enough time for me as I do not really study about the topic that the questions talked about as the result, I only got 60% for the quiz and 16 over 20 for my individual assignment. Sometimes I felt unfair with online quiz question. Because when I do it by myself I only got lower grade and got difficult questions but when I helped my friends, they got higher grades than me with the questions that are easier than me.

In the group assignment, I did not find any difficulty to contact with my group members. I am really enjoy working together with them because they have good personality to help each other when I face a difficulty to do with the assignment. In the tutorial class also they always cheer me up even though I did not ask them to do it and also by doing this group assignment, I can get more knowledge about management by looking or searching some references that are related to the group assignment that my team mates and I have worked on it.

This module and all the theories that I have learned are important in the working life because with these theories I can practice and apply them in my job later. It is different when I face the real situation and do not face it. If I face the real situation, I can know what should I do or which step should I take in order to achieve the company’s goals and also in order to make a decision that can give an impact to the whole department in the organization or company that I work at.

Family Relationships	Get along with each other. Gathering together when holiday. Doing activities together. Sharing everything together like sharing a problems. Helping each other in every way when they face a problem in the future.
Hobbies	Watching drama. Shopping or hang out with friends. Listen to music. Read novels. Relaxing with family or friends. Chit chat with friends. Sharing every moment with friends.	Hope can travelling together with friends again to overseas. Hope can learn something new in sports.

About controlling, in academic studies, I control myself to do the tutorials questions before the class starts, do the assignment and submit it on time whether it is individual on group assignment. When I socialize with my friends, I will control myself not to become a busybody person for them when they talk about their privacy, but I will give an advice when they ask me to give them one and I will also not become a person that they think they can relay on me in every ways because I want them to be more independent in how they control their lives for the future and also when they need my help, I will help them as much as I can. If I cannot help them, I will just let them know.

And in my family, I will be a good leader among my siblings, control my emotional when they annoy, give them an advice to be better than before when they have a problem with their studies or friendship. I also will give my parents advice if they need my advice in doing something that are important for our lives in the future and in every aspects. When in future my parents are having problem, I will help them in their business or their financial and doing it together with my siblings. Because my parents’ children not only me but the three of us that shall help parents when they need us.

For my hobbies, I willl control not to watch movie from night till morning and make my sleep time from morning till night. Shopping with buddies, I will control to go home earlier than before, not to spend much money for buying something that is not useful for my daily life. Relaxing , chit chat, sharing thoughts with friends. I will control that not to criticize too much in my friends problems, having fun while chit chat such as taking photos, playing games, listening to musics, I will maybe give them some advice that are positive to them because among us I am the oldest and I treat them as my younger brother and sister and so do them, treat me as their sisters.

Management Information Systems (MIS)

Management Information System (MIS) in my opinion is an Information Technology (IT) subject that have been combined with a management systems in order for those people or businessmen can use in their business process. Almost 1 semester I have studied MIS this subject. In this subject, I can learn about how a technology like IT can be used in the business in the easy way for the information to spread among the workers in the company.

In this subject also, I learned any type of the management systems, how they works in the real life, and how each of the department in the organization can make their decision based on the information that they had from the lower position of the data and also how the data is being processed in the system. This subject is a difficult for me to understand because I do not interest about the IT system themselves except browsing the internet.

Sometimes this subject makes me feel like can I pass the final paper on July later because some of the topics I do not really understand well. This subject also give me a group assignment and from the group assignment I can learn about how to write a report based on the a new application which is our idea for this project that maybe have not exist in this reality. Even though the process is hard to complete this assignment but we manage it on time as the due date is on 10 July 2013.

Business Communication

Before doing the business report, my expectation in this report is my group can do a good job which means that we can put in very detail information so that the reader can understand what is the company or organization  that  we chooses as our resume for the business report about. As the result my expectation was fulfilled because my group can finish the report on time even though during that week we need to submit other assignments that due after the business report due date.

In the process of completing the report, everything went well at the first time but after that at my house got internet problem so that I cannot help my team mate to do the editing I just done my part of the report during the one week study break. But my teammates  are very considerate about my problem so they said that it ok while I felt bad that I cannot help that much.

During the process , I can say that there are little problems that my teammates and I faced such as how to do the preface or abstract, too much words than the limit words that already been stated in the MIB and especially for me, I faced the interview problem. The interviewer is the manager of the company who speaks mandarin, Cantonese and English when the interview process.

I found it difficult because I am Indonesian and I do not understand anything about Cantonese that made me hard to understand and record what was the interviewer talked about in the certain parts of the questions. As the result, I just wrote the report as much as I can and my teammate helps me to complete it because they are Malaysians and it is easy for them to understand Cantonese more than me.

What I can learn about when I was doing the interview are I can know more about the company, how is the company management and marketing process, how the manager can handle each problem that he faced in the positive ways, and how the manager protect the relationship between and among the employees such as having an annual dinner, attend the wedding party of the employees.

Lastly, when doing the report, I can learn about how to do a good report with the guidelines from the lecture or topic that I have learned in the tutorial class and how to expand the interviewer’s answers in to a good paragraph.
